Cold war ‘V’ bomber, Avro Vulcan mark 2 XH558, was one of the last built and the last of the type to fly in 1993.
The aircraft, powered by four Rolls-Royce Olympus 20201 engines each developing 17,000 lbs thrust, took to the air again at Bruntingthorpe airfield, Leicestershire, on 18th October 2007 following its successful restoration.
Main supplier of specialised high performance coatings for aero engine components, and other airframe parts, Indestructible Paint Ltd., Birmingham, is pleased to be associated with the project.
The company often supports restoration of historical aircraft by contributing coatings for the
aircraft concerned; the ‘Vulcan to Fly’ project was no exception.
Indestructible Paint provided coatings for the aircraft’s jet pipes and the ‘Rockhard’ epoxy coatings used on the first stage compressor blades of its Olympus engines.
